Overview

Gosling was engaged to deliver the end-to-end construction and commissioning of a new 500kVA 3-way pad mount substation, designed and constructed to meet Essential Energy’s stringent technical and safety requirements.

As part of this critical infrastructure upgrade, our scope included the construction of a block retaining wall as per engineering drawing 22-081, positioned above the 1:100-year flood level. Behind this structure, a 100mm AG drain was installed and connected to the kerb on Coff Street to ensure effective site drainage.

Key works included:

  • Supply and installation of a 500kVA pad mount substation, including a custom footing, low voltage circuit breaker, and standard earthing system;
  • Installation of 14m of 125mm LD spare conduit and over 100 metres of 140mm under bore conduit across various segments;
  • Supply and installation of high voltage and low voltage XLPE cabling, totalling more than 150 metres in lineal length;
  • Removal of redundant cable and termination infrastructure, with new terminations and a high voltage straight-through joint installed at designated pegs.

To support delivery, we also:

  • Developed and implemented a traffic management plan in collaboration with relevant authorities;
  • Undertook vacuum excavation to safely locate existing underground services;

Testing and commissioning were completed in collaboration with Essential Energy, with associated auditing, switching, and power outage coordination included in the project planning and pricing.

Outcome

This project demonstrates Gosling Group’s capability in delivering complex substation infrastructure safely, efficiently, and to regulated utility standards.
